Whether you are vegan or not, you have likely heard of quinoa. Quinoa is a seed that is used like a grain or rice, typically in place of rice, millet or barley in dishes that don’t typically call for quinoa. Quinoa is a very small grain and when it is boiled in water, a circular coating on the grain separates from the rest of the grain – that’s how you know it’s cooked! (cooking only takes 15 minutes, by the way)
One of the most appealing things about quinoa is that it is packed with protein, being high in essential amino acids.
Quinoa is available in a number of colorful varieties which don’t differ in taste. It’s great to add to salads as a nutrition booster.
