Part of the fun of eating a plant-based diet is cooking up dishes that are totally out of your comfort zone. You may never have eaten such things growing up and you might not even know what a certain new dish is supposed to taste like!
This week, pick a vegan ingredient or meal that intimidates or intrigues you and make it. Hey, what can go wrong?! Worse case scenario: you have to throw it out. You can chalk it up to a learning experience.
Some ideas:
- Make seitan from scratch.
- Prepare baked tofu (instead of buying it in the store).
- Make a vegan “cheese” sauce from cashews.
- Try cauliflower couscous!
- Cook with tempeh.
Plenty Vegan will be attempting a dish with… jackfruit. Heard of it? It’s a freakin’ crazy looking, enormous fruit. It can be eaten ripe or unripe and the unripe version has been adopted by vegans to be used in savory dishes as a meat substitute. It can be found in curry dishes or BBQ because it sort of mimics pulled pork.
Join along in making something with jackfruit! Tacos, BBQ bowl, curry and rice… the possibilities are endless. If jackfruit is too far beyond your comfort zone, pick another crazy vegan ingredient.
Up for it?! You got this. After you’ve conquered your vegan mountain, share it! Comment below or tag your pic with #plentyvegan on Instagram.
